Petronor starts producing renewable hydrogen to supply the Basque Hydrogen Corridor.
The 2.5 MW electrolyser installed at Petronor has been commissioned and is now producing the first renewable hydrogen in the Basque Country. This green hydrogen is being used to supply the Energy Intelligence Center and the new Petronor offices at the Ezkerraldea-Meatzaldea Technology Park, in Abanto Zierbena. The hydrogen will also be used in the first buses and heavy vehicles of the mobility logistics platform of the Technology Park itself, which will be equipped with the first hydrogen refilling station in the Basque Country. This initiative is being promoted by EVE and Repsol. This renewable hydrogen is the first to be produced with European technology, an undertaking to which Petronor is committed as an essential part of the creation of a solid value chain. This commitment to technology on the basis of cross-border collaboration will enable the development of the European renewable hydrogen industry, as well as the necessary infrastructure for its deployment as a decarbonised energy source. The commissioning of the electrolyser, manufactured by SENER and John Cockerill, and of all the necessary infrastructure for the production and distribution of renewable hydrogen, has involved an investment of 11 million euros. Notably, all the necessary hydrogen pipelines, from the Petronor refinery to the Energy Intelligence Center, have been developed by Nortegas. In the course of the meeting of the Production Vertical to be held next Tuesday, October 24, Arturo Fernández, Head of Hydrogen Project Development at Petronor, will explain in detail the commissioning of the 2.5MW electrolyser, as well as the progress being made on the forthcoming 10MW and 100MW electrolysers.
