Barcelona puts into service in Spain the first two articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen buses.

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has announced it has put into service in Spain the first two 18-metre articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen buses. With these two buses, supplied by Solaris, TMB now has 46 hydrogen-powered buses on the road, making it the public transport operator in Spain with the most vehicles of these characteristics.

The two new vehicles in service at TMB have been supplied by Solaris Bus Ibérica and acquired with a grant through the JIVE2 project, the aim of which is to promote hydrogen as a clean energy source in public transport.

With a 100 kW battery and a 160 kW engine, the hydrogen-powered buses can operate for at least one day at a time without having to refuel.

The contract for these two articulated units and 36 12-metre Urbino 12 hydrogen buses awarded to Solaris Bus Ibérica is effectively the largest acquisition of hydrogen vehicles by TMB.
