The BH2C holds its IV General Assembly at the EIC (Energy Intelligence Center), with 52 initiatives including headline projects in Europe.

2023 has been a historic year for the BH2C, for its 70-plus members and, by extension, for the Basque Country. As José Ignacio Zudaire, President of the BH2C, explained at the BH2C Annual Assembly, held on Tuesday 23 January at its new headquarters at the Energy Intelligence Center (EIC) in Abanto-Zierbena: "We have commissioned the world's first palladium alloy membrane manufacturing plant, H2Site, to obtain hydrogen from ammonia or methanol; we have launched the H2Sarea project at Nortegás, which promotes the injection of green hydrogen into the current natural gas network; Irizar has manufactured its first hydrogen-powered coach prototype; tests have begun on CAF and Talgo hydrogen-powered trains; Calvera has launched a standardised range of hydrogen refuelling stations in three formats; and Petronor has started up the first 2.5 MW capacity electrolyser in the Basque Country".

Also in 2023, Mission Innovation and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership have officially recognised and certified the BH2C as a global H2V project. As highlighted at the Assembly, the Association has worked on 85 activities in 2023 to position the BH2C in Basque, Spanish and European administrations as a strategic project, and has also given particular importance to participating in fairs and business or promotional events and to looking for and building alliances, cooperation and partnerships to strengthen and grow the organisation.

Following the recent inclusion of the H2SALT project "Development of solutions for the underground storage of hydrogen in salt caverns", led by TEAM Ingenieria, and the UnLOHCked project led by the UPV/EHU, the BH2C now boasts 52 projects being taken forward by its members across the entire value chain. This makes it a lever for transforming the productive fabric and ensuring that the importance of industry in the Basque economy is maintained. Furthermore, at the Assembly, it was pointed out that these fifty or so initiatives at the project stage only require clear European legislation and the support of European funds to become a reality. Two new members were also announced: Team and Tamoin, bringing the total membership to 73.

In 2024, the BH2C will continue with its objective of fostering and promoting internal activities, with a view to enabling synergies and collaboration and driving the development of the different projects that form part of the Association through the meetings of its 5 Verticals, namely Production, Transport, Distribution & Storage, Industry and Mobility. In addition, BH2C will continue working to optimise the challenges of the different state grants programmes, and to consolidate its position and image as a benchmark initiative in the field of hydrogen both nationally and internationally.

The presentation used during the session is available on the BH2C website, in the "Assembly Documentation" section, exclusively for BH2C members.
