Inauguration of the EIC Foundation - Energy Intelligence Center.
The EIC Foundation-Energy Intelligence Center was officially launched on 4 December at an event headed by Imanol Pradales, Lehendakari (First Minister) of the Regional Basque Government, and Elixabete Etxanobe, Head of the Bizkaia Provincial Council, at the Ezkerraldea Meatzaldea Technology Park in Abanto-Zierbena (Bizkaia). The Foundation will manage the centre, a collaborative R&D&I platform to promote the energy transition and position Bizkaia and the Basque Country as an international benchmark in this field. The Foundation combines the fight against climate change with industrial and technological development, not only spearheading projects that strengthen the value chains of a decarbonised industry but also coordinating highly qualified talent, generating knowledge and collaborating closely with all the players involved in this key transition.
The Foundation's board of trustees comprises Mikel Amundarain, General Manager of the Basque Energy Agency (EVE); José Ignacio Zudaire, President of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C); Leire Colomo, Chair of the Energy Advanced Engineering Foundation; Juan Villar, CEO of Nortegas; José Luque, CEO of Petronor and Elixabete Etxanobe, Head of the Bizkaia Provincial Council, who chairs the Foundation.
The EIC Foundation will coordinate actions to develop and advance technologies that enable efficient decarbonisation. It will also focus on the design and advanced manufacturing of subsystems and components for the energy sector, targeting hard-to-abate processes such as heavy and/or long-distance transport, high-temperature industrial processes and the production of energy with a low carbon footprint. The goal is to generate new activities and maintain companies in Bizkaia and the Basque Country as international leaders in the sector.
