Official opening of the new Bureau Veritas Hydrogen Laboratory in Bilbao.

On World Hydrogen Day, Bureau Veritas, an expert in testing, inspection and certification (TIC), has announced the opening of its new state-of-the-art Hydrogen Laboratory in Bilbao. This facility is part of the LEAP | 28 strategy and the commitment of Bureau Veritas to support the energy transition by offering advanced hydrogen testing, certification and technical consultancy services. The laboratory focuses on hydrogen purity testing with 99.999% accuracy, certification of hydrogen production assets and quality control of derivatives such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), ammonia and methanol.

The opening ceremony was attended by Ainara Basurko Urkiri, Head of Economic Promotion at the Bizkaia Provincial Council, and José Ignacio Zudaire Arana, President of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C), both of whom highlighted the importance of hydrogen in the future of sustainable energy, along with Bureau Veritas‘ own representatives Diana Riaño, Ruben Pozo and Ewoud Kamminga. The event also included a tour of the laboratory's state-of-the-art facilities, and concluded with a cocktail reception, where industry leaders and stakeholders had the opportunity to discuss the role of hydrogen in the decarbonisation of key sectors such as mobility, heavy industry and power generation.

Located at the heart of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, the Bilbao laboratory positions Bureau Veritas as a key player in the region's hydrogen ecosystem. The capabilities of the laboratory will play a crucial role in supporting industries in their efforts to meet the challenges facing the hydrogen economy, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance and technological innovation.
