Petronor takes part in a conference on green hydrogen in Asturias.

The challenges for progress in the green hydrogen economy were discussed in the course of the conference "Why hydrogen and why now? A carrier for a clean, safe and affordable energy future", organised by the Official Association of Mining Engineers of Northwest Spain.

All the experts taking part in the conference agreed that the margin for growth is promising, with forecasts that by 2050, the demand for green hydrogen will stand at around 17%. They also pointed to a series of critical factors for its development, such as adequate regulation, financial profitability, boosting and developing the technology involved and having the necessary skilled personnel. Finally, these industry insiders explained the importance of the energy transition being progressive and in line with the needs of industry, mobility, and based on real technological solutions.

One of the experts who took part in the conference, held as part of the 45th edition of the La Granda courses in Avilés (Asturias), was Miguel Palacio from Petronor Innovación, who stressed that "at Petronor, we are firmly committed to being carbon neutral by 2050, and we have a series of transformation projects underway in renewable hydrogen, the circular economy and synthetic fuels. We are convinced that the combustion engine will survive beyond the dates currently established by European regulations, and that we must work and commit to technology so that the industry researches, develops and supplies the fuel mix that meets emissions targets."
