Sidenor to start factory testing with hydrogen in 2025.

In its latest sustainability report, Sidenor explains that it is working towards being able to use green hydrogen in all its combustion processes to eliminate emissions, with the first factory tests scheduled to begin in 2025.

Specifically, next year, hydrogen will be used to heat ladles (where molten steel is transported at high temperature), along the lines of what has already been done in a pilot test at Arcelor Sestao. The Basauri-based group has said that hydrogen should be "the preferred carrier" in the decarbonisation of steel.

2025 is the key year in Sidenor's decarbonisation roadmap. The company foresees that next year, all power consumed will be of renewable origin, a first step towards climate neutrality which must be achieved by 2050.
