The technical workshop on Hydrogen Refuelling Stations brings together 30 Basque companies and organisations to discuss the challenges and lessons learnt in commissioning the first green hydrogen refuelling stations in Europe.
A technical workshop on hydrogen refuelling stations (HRS), organised by the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C) and the Energy Cluster, was held on Wednesday 27 November at the EIC - Energy Intelligence Center. The event brought together 54 representatives from 30 Basque companies and organisations to look at and discuss the solutions provided by the main companies in the sector for refuelling hydrogen vehicles.
In the course of the workshop, Calvera Hydrogen reported on the latest developments in the construction of different HRS in Europe, in particular the one in Poznan, with a capacity to refuel more than 60 buses per day. Air Liquide explained their vision and portfolio of HRS, which factors in the entire value chain, from the production of renewable energy through to the end uses of hydrogen. The company is working to develop key ecosystems around the world, especially in the North American, Asian and European markets. Representatives of the AMPO-GRZ partnership spoke about their innovative solution for setting up HRS using metal hydrides, a new technology which enables hydrogen to be stored safely in a solid state for refuelling situations at predetermined times.
After the coffee break, Carburos Metallicos (Air Products) presented their proposal for refuelling hydrogen vehicles in all kinds of situations, from small HRS to larger ones dispensing liquid hydrogen. Numerous projects promoting the production and application of hydrogen in mobility were featured, while Zoilo Rios explained the experience and knowledge they have acquired during the development and roll-out of HRS projects throughout Spain, stressing the importance of knowing beforehand the demand for hydrogen and the characteristics of the technology for efficient and viable design purposes.
The conference was an opportunity to exchange opinions on the trends in the European and global market, technological preferences for hydrogen transport, the different heavy-duty vehicles available on the market and the challenges facing the sector. In short, there is a consensus within the sector that hydrogen mobility is still an incipient market that requires solutions capable of adapting to demand. Finally, the workshop enabled participants from Basque companies and organisations from across the entire hydrogen value chain to network, through B2B meetings, with experts in commissioning HRS.
