The meeting of the Use in Mobility Vertical of the BH2C provides an opportunity to share experiences in the logistics, refuelling and European market of hydrogen vehicles.

The 4th meeting of the Use in Mobility Vertical of the BH2C was held on Tuesday, 22 October, at the EIC-Energy Intelligence Center. The meeting of the Vertical, led by EVE and Repsol, brought together 38 people from 29 member organisations.

In the course of the meeting, Juan Manuel Fernández, from EVE, reported on the latest developments of the projects and initiatives of the Vertical, as well as the most relevant regulatory aspects for the hydrogen mobility sector in recent months. Miguel Palacio, from Petronor, presented the HyBizkaia EFuels and Mobility at Basque Hydrogen Corridor initiative, part of the H2 Pioneers programme. Within the field of mobility, the aim of this initiative, which involves several BH2C projects across the value chain, is to supply hydrogen to a fleet of buses at the Abanto Technology Park hydrogen refuelling station, and to fill MEGCs to service a truck of a logistics company (both subsidised). MEGCs will be used to transport hydrogen to the airport, where another hydrogen refuelling station will be set up to service the airport's offtakers.

As a guest from outside the BH2C, Fernando Monasterio, from EXOLUM, explained the company's capabilities in terms of logistics and the supply of hydrogen for mobility. In his intervention, particular mention was made of a hydrogen refuelling station in Madrid for refuelling regular two-line buses and vehicles, the good positioning of the company to lead H2-to-road logistics in Spain and in the UK, and the tests conducted with toluene as a LOHC in Spain.

The meeting also featured presentations by two other member companies. Firstly, Asier Irure, from CAF Solaris, spoke of the company's leadership in the European hydrogen and zero emission vehicle market, having sold 860 hydrogen buses to date (of which 260 have already been delivered) and with a portfolio of 40 customers. Secondly, Nieves Murillo, from Calvera Hydrogen, presented the portable H2 refuelling station solution supplied within the framework of the H2TRUCK project for a plug-in, low-cabin, battery-hydrogen fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle for urban service applications. The refuelling station is carried on a chassis for road transport, has an operating pressure of 350 bar, and has a mobile H2 dispensing system for use in multiple locations and a storage capacity aligned with the needs of the vehicle fleet.

The event concluded with a guided tour by Rafael Canales of the Bureau Veritas hydrogen laboratory, which focuses on hydrogen purity testing with 99.999% accuracy, certification of hydrogen production assets and quality control of derivatives such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), ammonia and methanol.
