The BH2C, invited to take part in the General Assembly of the Alliance for the Use of Green Hydrogen in Aviation.
The Alliance for the Use of Green Hydrogen in Aviation (AH2A) has held its General Assembly to review the progress made in its first year of existence. The work of the Alliance has been organised into four working groups involving 41 member organisations. Ways of producing and supplying hydrogen to airports are being explored, building on existing initiatives. To this end, the plans for green hydrogen production in Spain and the estimated demand for it are being determined, as well as the means for transporting it from production plants to airports. At airports, green hydrogen will be used as one of the energy storage systems for their static needs as well as for the fleet of ground vehicles supporting airport services. In addition, airports will be the supply channel for hydrogen to aircraft and will therefore also have to prepare for this: hydrogen storage, dispensers and regulation. The focus of the working group on sustainable synthetic fuels is to analyse the current situation of these fuels in aviation, their regulatory framework, and the development of production technologies, capacity and distribution infrastructures. As a result of this first analytical phase, a document has been drafted as a chapter on synthetic fuels for aviation to be included in the "White Paper on Aviation in Spain". Finally, the working group on hydrogen technologies in aircraft focuses on identifying the technological developments that will enable aircraft to operate with hydrogen, either by powering fuel cells to run electric engines or as a direct fuel in the engines. The 4 groups are also working on the regulatory framework needed to use hydrogen in the aeronautical environment. In addition to the presentations of these working groups, the Assembly also featured the intervention of José Ignacio Zudaire, President of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, who presented the synfuel production plant initiative being taken forward by Petronor in Bilbao.
