EVE, the BH2C and the Energy Cluster bring together representatives of Basque industry interested in the future European renewable hydrogen transport system.

The Basque Energy Agency (EVE), in collaboration with the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C) and the Energy Cluster, has brought together the bulk of Basque industry likely to produce or use hydrogen in their production processes to report on the consultation recently opened by the promoters of the hydrogen transport corridor in the Iberian Peninsula. This consultation, though non-binding, could be a conditioning factor for the future planning and construction of European hydrogen distribution infrastructure.

The information webinar brought together around fifty Basque companies interested in this call for consultation, the purpose of which is to identify the industry's renewable hydrogen production and consumption needs from now to 2030. The findings of this call could be decisive for the future construction of transport infrastructure for this highly important energy vector in the energy transition towards a decarbonised system, and for the competitiveness of Basque industry itself.

The key aspects of this call, which will remain open until 18 December, were explained in the webinar, as it is essential that Basque players interested in producing, consuming or commercialising renewable hydrogen between now and 2030 actively engage in the process. This is a crucial opportunity for Basque industry to show its muscle and, through its contributions, influence the decision-making process on which sections of the corridor are to be undertaken first and on the final route.

The call for consultation, or call for interest, has been launched by the promoters of the H2Med project (REN, Enagas, GRTgaz, Terega and OGE) to identify the needs for renewable hydrogen production and consumption along the future corridor that will link the Iberian Peninsula with the rest of Europe by 2030. The information gathered through this call may favour the construction of hydrogen infrastructure in our region. A recording of the webinar is available here.
