The hydrogen train of the FCH2RAIL project, led by CAF, successfully completes testing on commercial lines in Spain and Portugal.
The EU FCH2RAIL - Fuel Cell Hybrid Power Pack for Rail Applications - demonstrator train has successfully completed testing on 6 commercial lines in Spain and Portugal. Two important milestones have been achieved: firstly, the train has demonstrated more than 800 km of autonomy on a line with very demanding orography, and secondly, it is the first hydrogen train to perform tests on the Portuguese railway network. The video is available on YouTube.
The hydrogen train is part of the FCH2Rail consortium, a project that started in early 2021 and is scheduled to run until the end of 2024. The consortium includes Spanish companies Renfe Operadora, Adif, CAF and the Centro Nacional de Hidrógeno / National Hydrogen Centre; Portugal's IP (Infraestructuras de Portugal); Germany's DLR and STT; and Toyota Motor Europe (TME), which is providing the fuel cell integration service.
