Solaris, a CAF Group company, confirms its leadership in the European hydrogen bus market with contracts for Barcelona and Essen.
Solaris has been commissioned by the operator TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) to supply 38 hydrogen buses, 36 of which are 12-metre long buses and two are 18-metre articulated buses. This is the largest contract awarded to date in Spain for vehicles powered by this type of technology. This agreement provides the CAF Group with the opportunity to continue working towards meeting the objectives of the city of Barcelona to provide more sustainable transport. In recent years, Solaris has seen a significant increase in its order book for vehicles for the sustainable vehicle sector, especially for the Spanish market, to which it has already supplied over 900 buses. Additionally, Solaris has signed a contract with the operator Ruhrbahn GmbH for the supply of 19 hydrogen buses to operate in the German city of Essen. The order comprises nine Urbino 12 and ten Urbino 18 vehicles, scheduled for delivery between 2024 and 2025. The buses will be equipped with hydrogen fuel cells that generate electricity on board, and will be fitted with Solaris High Power batteries specifically designed to support longer battery operation. The vehicles will also be air-conditioned using a CO2 device with a heat pump heating function. Source: Estrategia Empresarial |
